Few meditation techniques

I’m no yogi or spirirtual guru, but these are 2 simple ways of meditation which can be used by anyone and everyone. They are pretty straightforward and practical.

1. Speed Breaker

Whenever we are in a state of tension, anger, nervousness the common facet is an increased pace of heartbeats. Thus its pretty obvious that controlling our heart pace can help control these emotions. so the first step is become aware whenever we are feeling angry, nervous or tense. Then immediately realise the fact that our heart is galloping. Now comes the easiest part i.e slowing it down: Close your eyes, concentrate on your breath. Visualize the air moving through your nostrils to the deepest cells of your lungs and taking the same path out again. If you need you could use a simple verse or mantra like ‘Om’ or better still, say “So” while you inpsire and “hum” while you expire(never mind the meaning). Repeat the exercise 10-15 minutes and you have your emotions under your control.

2. The Sound Box

Some days our emotions and thoughts seem to be running at a breakneck speed. Sit down in a quiet corner, with your legs folded into each other. Close your eyes. Try to listen to each and every minute sound. The low buzz of the fan, the distant sound of a car speeding away, the chatter from a neighbour’s house. Take every sound into your brain without reserve or critique. Just feel each sound and let it flow through the chambers of your brain. Now slowly let all the sounds just merge into a amorous, singular sound. And then leave the sound there and enter into a quietitude and peace. Stay in the state as long as you feel like. Then when its enough, slowly let the buzz develop into the individual sounds as before. Hear each of the different sounds again and comeback to the world again by opening your eyes.
