Can I decide to be happy everyday?
The general notion of happiness is that when something good happens to us, we achieve something or someone acts good to us, someone says something nice. But then we have our good and bad days. Everyone isnt nice to us everyday. In a sense, happiness as a notion depends on something that happens which should make us feel good. Well how nice it would be if we could make sure that something good happens everyday which serves to make us feel good and in turn happy. This might seem like a fantasy and nice dream.
Now imagine if the part of happiness which involves the necessity of a good thing to happen for us to be happy is removed, i.e we can chose to be happy irrespective of someone being good to us or something nice happening. Sounds like some impractical idea of trying to live like an enlightened one who is eternally happy, doenst it!!!
Maybe we can borrow a few concepts here and there and make this idea a bit practical. First of all, let us be clear that the motive here is to be happy when we chose to. So whenever we are happy try to make a mental note of how our emotions are at that point of time. Well some indicators of a happy mind are a smiling face, feeling of well - being, ability to appreciate everything around us. Now chose a day when you are in a neutral mood(Dont start this experiment on a bad lousy day!!). Now try to replicate the above mentioned emotions. Put up a smiling face all around. Try to feel as if you are hale and healthy on the day. Assume that the day has been a good one. Get a small flower and visually appreciate its beauty. Then treat yourself a small bar of chocolate. Chocolates and ice- creams are proven stress relievers. If something otherwise happens, assume you are immune to sadness and pain. Feel as if you are the master of the world. Even if you find a little success, congratujulate yourself and celebrate. Announce to everyone around that you intend to be happy and are not gonna be affected by petty things. One thing that will happen for sure is people around you are going to feel better and that in turn will multiply the happiness around. Once you master this technique, you can use this on any day, even on a really bad day.
Its upto you to decide. Make a motto: I refuse to be sad. I am Happy Today
