Self Pity - The Greatest Crippler
Image via Wikipedia
Ok! This is a borrowed concept, I heard from a friend. I liked it and extended it.
Quite often, when we are surrounded by problems or find ourselves in a difficult sitaution, we blame our fate and stars. We of course do keep hearing that, there is nothing called as fate and its stupid to blame stars and fate and blah blah blah. But sometimes life does seem harsh, wherein things out of our control go against us and tends to extend the belief that there is something called as fate and its working against us. We all face such sitautions and there’s nothing wrong to feel so. But what we need to guard against is the trap of SELF-PITY.
During these kind of situtuations, we kind of sympathise with ourselves, feel sorry for ourselves and unknowingly fall into a pseudo - cosy situation of self-pity. Its just like we like when someone symapthises with us and comforts us. We unconsciously do it to ourselves and like to remain in that state since it provides an excuse for our shortcomings and foibles. Fate and stars are just the terms which arise out of this self-pity. Once we fall into this vicisous circle, its difficult to find a way out.
What we need to do is attack this part of ourselves which provides pity and sympathy. Pity and sympathy are poor comforters, they are like drugs which provide a temporary high. So whenever we sense the feeling of pity ……BEWARE!! we dont need any sympathy from ourselves or anyone for that matter. Be a braveheart. Courage is supreme to success and achievement if life. A weak heart never won anything. Weak hearts belong to losers.
